2025 Dedication
Every year The Legend picks a member of our community to honor by dedicating the weekend performance to. Through many meetings and hours of ideas and thoughts the board narrows down a long list of individuals and families who have dedicated countless hours and recourses to the Legend
This year at Legend of Rawhide, we are proud to recognize the Wurdeman family, a name that reflects deep roots in agriculture, community, and tradition. At the center of it all is Neal Wurdeman, whose dedication, work ethic, and quiet generosity have left a lasting impact not only on his family, but across Niobrara County.
Neal made the move from eastern Nebraska to Duck Creek Ranch nearly 30 years ago, building a life centered around livestock, land, and legacy. With his children by his side, Neal established a thriving family operation—5W Livestock LLC—a backgrounding feedlot and ranching enterprise near Node. His influence can be seen in every aspect of the operation, especially through the work of his sons, Carson and Garrett, and daughter Lainey, who proudly carry forward the values he’s instilled in them.
In 2020, Carson and Garrett founded Wurdeman Brothers LLC, focusing on raising premium hay and cattle. Their hay operation includes irrigated and dryland production, offering everything from alfalfa-orchardgrass mixes to high-quality horse and cow hay. With Neal’s guidance and support, they’ve built a business grounded in integrity, resilience, and service.
The Wurdeman family has long supported the Legend of Rawhide, not only through generous auction purchases and hay donations but also through years of hands-on participation in the pageant and behind-the-scenes efforts. Neal served as an outrider for several years, and his children have proudly taken part in various roles. Lainey and Carson were both Wagon Train Kids, with Carson also serving as an outrider, portraying Tom Hall, donating hay, and helping tear down the event grounds in recent years. Garrett, too, has been deeply involved, serving as an outrider and portraying both Tom and Hal in past pageants.
Their agricultural roots were nurtured early through 4-H and county fairs. Neal proudly supported his sons through livestock showing, FFA, and state competitions, celebrating championships and hard-earned ribbons alike. Carson and Garrett’s success in the show ring and Carson’s involvement in collegiate livestock judging were not just individual accomplishments, but family ones. As their lives and business continue to grow, Carson is engaged to his fiancée, Shelby, and Garrett is engaged to his fiancée, Madison, both of whom have become part of the extended Wurdeman legacy.
Today, the Wurdemans remain a cornerstone in both the ranching world and the community they love. Their story is a testament to the power of family, the value of hard work, and the impact of giving back.
We are honored to recognize Neal, Carson, Garrett, Lainey, and the entire Wurdeman family during Legend of Rawhide 2025 for their unwavering support, generous hearts, and the legacy they continue to build, right here at home in Niobrara County.
